UM's First Patent

UM’s First Patent: A Landmark in Innovation The University of Mindanao (UM) achieves a significant milestone with its first-ever patent for a revolutionary invention: a test kit detecting Mercury (Hg) and Lead (Pb) in Mining Wastewater. Dr. Chosel P. Lawagon, Engr. Crijaica L. Oceña-Godoy, and Steph Kier Ponteras (Chemical Engineering Student – YIP Grantee) secured the patent on January 19, 2024, valid until February 21, 2042.

We recognize the importance of commemorating the enactment of Republic Act 11313, also known as the Safe Spaces Act, and highlighting its significance based on recent research findings from the Department of Criminal Justice Education. The study revealed that while 5 out of 10 individuals are aware of the existence of the Safe Spaces Act, only 2 of these individuals have a clear understanding of its provisions.

Prof. Khareen B. Culajara’s tenure at UM Digos spans over a decade, marked by a remarkable journey of academic growth and contribution. Her educational odyssey commenced with a Bachelor of Arts in English majoring in Creative Writing from the esteemed University of the Philippines – Mindanao in 2010. Continuing her pursuit of knowledge, she further honed her expertise by obtaining a Master of Arts in English from Ateneo de Davao University in 2016.

The University of Mindanao Research and Publication Center – UMRPC has just culminated its 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 in preparation for DOST’s upcoming calls for funding. 

Held at the 𝗖𝗮𝗴𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗿𝗶 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹, groups from different Colleges and Campuses presented their concept proposals for evaluation and critiquing by the 𝗗𝗿.
